The Success Stories That Made A Difference

A further selection of success stories from our previous grant recipients.

Grassroots Grants 09/10

Ackworth Concert Society.
£2,500 was awarded to this group.

“The money will be used to help fund the 2009/2010 season of concerts in Ackworth providing top quality classical music for the people of Wakefield and district. We will use the money to subsidise ticket prices to ensure that our audiences can afford to attend and so that we may continue to employ top quality musicians. This also allows us to give employment to young up-and-coming professional musicians, highly talented local musicians, as well as world famous musicians. If we achieve a successful 2009-10 season it will put us in a stronger position to face the long term future.”

Ackworth Group of Riding for the Disabled.
£2,000 was awarded to this group.

“The generous grant from the foundation has totally transformed the riding experience at Ackworth Riding for the disabled group. It enabled us to replace a very dusty and uncomfortable surface on our riding arena so that now we have happy riders and happy horses. Thank you very much”.

Netherton Over 50's Club.
£761was awarded to this group.

“All members of the over 50’s club enjoyed their visit with some visiting Chester Zoo and others enjoying the sights of the historic Chester. All expressed their appreciation for your support for the trip”.

Newmillerdam Community and Conservation Association.
£721was awarded to this group.

“The Community Foundation grant made a big difference to us as it allowed us to try something innovative, and helped launch the first village day that Newmillerdam has had for many years. The grant was used to fund 'Faceless Theatre' who helped us develop a “Green Man” theme with mask making activities and an eight foot green man who led a procession of parents and children up the hill to the old colliery site”.

Normanton, Altofts and Whitwood Royal British Legion Branch.
£5,000 was awarded to this group.

“Without your help of the grant from your very good selves, many of our older members who are mostly on fixed incomes wouldn’t have been able to afford the trip. In total we visited 18 cemetery locations and memorials which contained the graves of 32 Normanton Soldiers that paid the ultimate sacrifice in World War 1”.

South Elmsall United Junior Football Club.
£2,415 was awarded to this group.

“The funding that we were successful in gaining from your organisation has paid for the use of the training facility within the pictures. We use this every Wednesday. Without the grant then this would have been a large drain on our funds that we are trying to build throughout the year to cover operating costs for next year. The grant, along with others, will in my opinion, safe guard South Elmsall United for the future. This is great news for all involved who give up a lot of their own spare time to put back into the Community through Football. Without their help where would we be? And the help of organisations like yours. On behalf of everyone associated with South Elmsall, a great big Thank you”.

Upton United Junior Football Club.
£5,000 was awarded to this group.

“Great gratitude to which is owed to the Community Foundation Wakefield in the ‘easy funding’ application process and help received from Shona Walsh in completing a substantial £5000 successful grant process. We hope these words from a collection of both children and senior club volunteers shows the benefit to our club and more importantly to individuals for many different reasons”.

Women and Children's zone group.
£2,600 was awarded to this group.

“Had one session on 3rd October and it was a productive day. 8 women and 7 children attended. We really had a good day and managed to support one of our members who lost her brother very recently. Hopefully we are having a relaxation breathing session in near future”.
